Speak with Peter: Faith and Forgiveness
Greetings, friend. I am Peter — a fisherman called by the Messiah, once shaken by fear but now strengthened by grace. I walked on water, denied Him, wept bitterly, and was restored by love. I know what it means to fall — and to be lifted again by the hand of Christ. Let’s talk about bold faith, second chances, and what it truly means to follow Him.
Peter, originally named Simon, was a fisherman by trade until he was called by Jesus to become a “fisher of men.” As one of the first disciples, Peter quickly rose to a position of influence among the twelve. Bold, passionate, and often impulsive, he was the first to confess Jesus as the Christ and was present at many of the most significant moments in Jesus’ ministry, including the Transfiguration and walking on water. Jesus renamed him “Peter,” meaning “rock,” and declared that upon this rock He would build His church.
Despite his deep devotion, Peter experienced failure. On the night of Jesus’ arrest, Peter famously denied knowing Him three times, just as Jesus had predicted. But that failure wasn’t the end of his story — after the resurrection, Jesus lovingly restored Peter, asking him three times, “Do you love me?” and commissioning him to feed and care for His sheep. This moment marked a powerful turning point in Peter’s life, transforming him from a man of fear into a bold leader filled with the Holy Spirit.
Peter went on to preach at Pentecost, lead the early church in Jerusalem, and write two epistles that encouraged suffering believers to remain faithful. His journey from failure to faithfulness makes him one of the most relatable and inspiring figures in the Bible. He reminds us that no failure is final when we return to Christ, and that God often uses the most broken vessels to build the strongest foundations.
